In February 2024, the Australian Government announced a $707 million investment to deliver the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program. The program aims to increase long-term, local employment opportunities for job seekers in remote communities by creating new jobs that respond to community priorities.
In February 2026, the Australian Government announced an additional $299 million investment over four years to expand the program, creating a further 3,000 jobs and bringing the total to 6,000 jobs by 2030. These jobs can be flexible around personal, family and community obligations and may be part-time, full-time or casual.
Eligible employers in Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) regions can apply for RJED funding to create new jobs, as well as the infrastructure and equipment needed to support those roles, through a competitive grant assessment process.
Employer organisations that are successful in securing RJED funding enter into a funding agreement with the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA). As part of the agreement, employers are required to submit employment and performance reports to support program monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement. The reporting requirements are set out in the RJED funding agreement.
To support the successful implementation of the RJED program, the NIAA has partnered with Ninti One Limited (Ninti) to deliver employment reporting support services for RJED employers.
Our role is to help employers understand and meet their mandatory employment reporting requirements, making reporting easier while supporting the long term sustainability of RJED-funded jobs in remote communities.
Ninti One Limited (Ninti) is an Indigenous owned and led not-for-profit professional services organisation, registered with Supply Nation.
We work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, organisations and governments to deliver training, capacity building, research, evaluation and community engagement projects that create lasting opportunities and positive outcomes.
Through the provision of RJED employment reporting support services, we provide practical support to help RJED employers meet their reporting obligations and strengthen the delivery of RJED funded employment. This work contributes to improved monitoring, evaluation and learning across the RJED program while supporting sustainable employment outcomes in remote communities.
We will provide practical, culturally safe and responsive support to help RJED employers meet their employment reporting obligations. Our approach is strengths based and tailored to the needs of each employer, recognising different levels of confidence, capability and organisational capacity.
